All About
Swadnya Rachnalaya

Art rooted in where we come from.
Swadnya is an independent art and design studio exploring Indian culture through contemporary visual language.
We create artwork, illustrations, identities, objects and experiences inspired by the stories, symbols, traditions and visual heritage that surround us.
Our work isn't about reproducing the past.
It's about seeing it again.

The idea behind Swadnya
Swadnya comes from two ideas:
Swa — the self.
Yadnya — an offering, a sacred act of creation.
Together, Swadnya represents an idea we hold close:
The offering of the self through creation.
For us, making is a form of inquiry. We look at where we come from, what we inherit, what we remember, and what those things can become when seen through a contemporary eye.

Rachanalaya
Rachanalaya comes from Rachana — creation — and Alaya — a place or abode.
A place of creation.
That's what the studio is meant to be.
A space where ideas, images, stories and cultural fragments can be taken apart, reinterpreted and put back together in new forms.

What we make
Our work moves between art and design.

Narrative Art
Illustration, visual storytelling and artwork inspired by Indian stories, , history and cultural memory.

Brand Identity
Distinctive identities built around ideas, stories and visual worlds rather than decoration alone.

Packaging Design
Packaging that carries more than a product — bringing culture, character and narrative into the object itself.

Art & Objects
Prints, artworks and creative products that bring the Swadnya world into physical spaces.

Our visual language
Swadnya lives somewhere between the ancient and the contemporary.
We are interested in old symbols, forgotten details, familiar stories and inherited forms  but we don't believe they need to remain frozen in their original context
.

A symbol can change.
A story can be retold.
A colour can acquire another meaning.
A familiar form can become strange again.

That's where much of our work begins.

Why Swadnya exists
India has never lacked visual language.
It has accumulated it for thousands of years — in temples, manuscripts, textiles, rituals, architecture, objects, folk traditions, paintings and stories.
We want to explore that enormous visual inheritance and create something that feels of its time without being disconnected from its roots.

Not nostalgia.
Not imitation.
Interpretation.
